Twice a year the Working Party on Land Administration (WPLA) organises a conference under the United Nations Economic Committee for Europe. The 2012 theme was “Supporting global economic recovery: the role of land registration authorities”.
On Friday October 12th 2012, Rik Wouters made a presentation on the renewed EULIS services during a session specifically devoted to “Technology to support efficient lending”. He explained the aim of EULIS, and how it stimulates cross border lending. During the discussions, it became clear that information provided by EULIS is a major pre-condition to supporting the lending process. Property information reduces risks typically arising from doing business in a foreign country, with different legal frameworks and difficult access to national information channels.
A number of countries showed strong interest in the EULIS service. The representative from the land administration organisation (SCPI) in Azerbaijan expressed his wish to become a new EULIS-member.
The conference was a great success with some 130 participants from over 30 countries. The social programme was also great, hosting the gala diner in the Tower of London with a VIP-visit to the Royal Crown Jewels.
